The German automaker Volkswagen is not taking chances in redeveloping its models. This time, the manufacturer has confirmed the release of its redesigned mid-size crossover, the VW Touareg. This model will be built in the U.S at Volkswagen Chattanooga facility which is home to the recently unveiled 2015 VW Passat sedan. The upcoming VW Touareg will be redesigned to appeal the modern day car buyer. This 2016 VW Touareg will compete with other crossovers like Kia Sorento, Mitsubishi Outlander and Nissan Pathfinder. Unlike its predecessor, the designer has utilized two chrome slats to make the grille attractive rather than four slats which are found in the current Touareg. This new 2016 VW Touareg is likely to be offered in three engine alternatives. The base engine is expected to be a 3.6 liter V6 generating 276 horsepower and 266 Nm of torque. There are also expectations of a 3.0 liter TDI diesel engine providing 240 horsepower and 406 lb-ft of torque. The most powerful engine expected in the 2016 VW Touareg is a hybrid variant which combines a 3.0 liter V6 supercharged unit with an electric motor. The hybrid engine is projected to offer a power output of 375 horses and 428 pounds-feet of torque. The available engines will then be mated to a standard 8 speed automatic transmission and the 4Motion system. The diesel engine’s fuel efficiency is rated at 20/29 mpg city/highway while the hybrid version is rated at 20/24 mpg city/highway respectively.

Considering the way the automaker has made this SUV with a premium finish, its price is also high. Every prospective buyer desiring to purchase the 2016 VW Touareg will have to part with about $ 46 000 for the base trim and $ 70 000 for the high trims. This model competes with other great SUV’s like Mazda CX-9, Ford Explorer, Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango. Its launch date is expected in summer of 2016.
