Mercedes GLK is known as the small sports utility vehicle from Mercedes. This model was first released in 2008 and it has been in tough competition with the Porsche Macan, BMW X3, Audi Q5, Lexus RX350, Acura RDX, Infiniti QX50 and the aggressive Volvo XC60. The current model has been classified as stylistically challenged and the manufacturers feel it is time to give it some refreshments. They aim at producing a 2016 year model which will have a more fashionable design that will have nothing to do with the slab-sided style of the current model. According to sources, the 2016 Mercedes GLK will be built on the W204 platform. Its new weight will be about 4200 lbs or 1900 kg. It will remain a five seater with four doors. As mentioned above, most of the features inside this model will be carried over from the C-Class model. It will be equipped with high class materials. The outstanding highlights include a telescopic leather steering wheel, a freestanding infotainment system in addition to higher quality switchgear. This new 2016 Mercedes GLK will also have metallic accents and circular air vents. Still on its inside, there will be an optional heated seats and a steering wheel, ambient lighting, split folding rear seat, premium leather seats and a panoramic roof. The 2016 Mercedes GLK will come with the most recent technological devices. They include a 7 inch touch screen, optional LCD screens for its rear passengers, Mercedes COMAND electronics interface, HD and satellite radio with six speakers, Bluetooth wireless data link for hands free phone, iPod and USB audio interface and dual zone automatic climate control. As for its safety features, they include front and rear head airbags, driver knee airbags, rearview camera and dual front side airbags.

Its radiator grille will be large with two horizontal chrome strips. It will make the car to look sportier with front LED lights and adaptive automatic halogen headlights. For the high trim level, there will be bi-xenon headlights, front and rear bumpers in same color as the body, automatic, front and rear fog lights, heated mirrors, a redesigned roof spoiler and modern roof rails and a sloping rear part of the roof. 2016 Mercedes GLK new measurements include a length of 178.3 inches, 74.3 inches in width, 66.9 inches in height and 108.5 inches for its wheelbase.

The first engine which is expected is a 3.5 liter V6 petrol engine generating 302 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque. It is rated at 21 mpg combined and it shall be able to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph within 5.9 seconds. The second expected engine is a 2.0 liter four cylinder turbocharged diesel unit generating 200 hp and 369 pound-feet of torque. It is rated at 28 mpg combined and it is capable of accelerating from 0 to 62 mph within 7.8 seconds.

Its arrival is anticipated to take place either in the middle or towards the end of 2015. It is expected to be launched during the New York Auto Show to allow its enthusiast to view what to expect.
