This is a crossover whose nameplate is used on two different vehicles assembled and marketed by Honda. One of the vehicles is a mini SUV which Honda produced from 1999 to 2006 while the second model is a forthcoming sub-compact crossover which was unveiled in 2014. The upcoming version has already been released in Japan and it bears the name ‘Honda Vezel’. This expected Honda HR-V will be a 2016 year model, much smaller than Honda’s CR-V and Pilot and it will be based on the Fit platform which underpins the Fit. It will be assembled at Honda’s Celaya assembly plant in Mexico. The new 2016 Honda HR-V will be well known for its dynamic fuel efficiency and sleek styling. It also bears clean signature lines which are complemented by unseen rear door handles providing this model with a sporty appearance. This new model is offered in three trims namely LX. EX and EX-L.
2016 Honda HR-V: Redesign Exterior and Interior
The automaker has differentiated the new 2016 Honda HR-V is styling form that of the Fit and the CR-V. The new HR-V gets none of the subcompact hatchback’s angular wedges or even the compact crossover’s blocky rear end cues. On the contrary, the new HR-V comes with a sportier, coupe-like posture with sturdy horizontal lines, a swooping roofline and concealed rear door panels. At its front, the 2016 Honda HR-V features a large two-tier grille with cutouts as well as angular headlights which enhance its sporty look. Its front will measure 169.1 inches in length while its wheelbase will be 102. 8 inches.
The new Honda HR-V has a roomy interior which seats five adult passengers and this has been made possible by the center mounting of its fuel tank, just like in the Fit. The new HR-V gets 100.1 cubic feet of passenger space in the lx and 96.1 inches in the XE and EX-L trims. This space is quite impressive given that the large CR-V comes with a slightly more passenger space of 101.5 cubic feet. Another borrowed feature from the Fit is Honda’s Magic front passenger seat that can also fold flat hence creating more cargo space. There are standard features which are found in all 2016 Honda HR-V trims. These features include aluminum alloy wheels, tilt-telescopic steering wheel featuring cruise and audio control buttons, Bluetooth connectivity, power door and tail gate locks, push button start, SiriuxXM radio, heated front seats, rear view camera, power windows and power mirrors. The higher trims acquire more advanced features including a 7 inch touch-screen audio system, a power sunroof, navigation system, leather upholstery, Pandora radio and paddle shifters among others.
2016 Honda HR-V: Engine Specs
This new 2016 Honda HR-V borrows its power unit from the Honda’s Civic. The engine is a 1.8 liter 4-cylinder which generates 138 horsepower in the HR-V, downwards from the Civics’ 143 hp. The engine is mated to a continuously variable automatic transmission in the HR-V, or a six speed manual transmission. Both two wheel and four wheel drive have been offered.
2016 Honda HR-V: Release Date, Price, Competitors
2016 Honda HR-V main competitors are Kia Soul, Nissan Juke and Chevrolet Trax. It is expected to hit the show rooms in the first half of 2015. Its price has not been revealed but it might be at the same range with the current HR-V’s price of $ 24 000.
