The first ever BMW X5 model debuted in 1999. To date, this mid-size luxury crossover has been though three generational changes. Its current version was released an year ago, meaning that the upcoming model might only receive minimum changes. The 2016 BMW X5 will go through some mid-cycle refreshments but its Bavarian manufacturer might surprise buyers by including some novel changes in it. According to speculations, this new model will come with the hybrid and M trim levels.
2016 BMW X5: Redesign Exterior and Interior
2016 BMW X5 will be slightly different from the current one. Its sporty appearance will be enhanced by carrying out some radical changes especially at its front. This modes follows the new BMW 4 series which are based on Gran Lusso concept that was launched during Villa d’Esta Concours d’Elegance in Italy. It is worth mentioning that the 2016 BMW X5 will be built using high steel strength, carbon fiber and aluminum, thus it will be able to shed off about 175 pounds. There are rumors that for the first time, the same BMW X5 will be built using different platforms. This move is aimed at bringing in different options for prospective buyers to choose from, and also in enabling the manufacturer to meet the customer’s expectations. Its headlights will have some rings around them while the grill and badge will be extended. The front bumpers will be supported by servo motors which will control them during opening, while the taillights will be slimmer. For the M series, there will be 20 inch light alloy wheels laced with tires or the optional 21 inch light alloy wheels.
Some of the modern features which were showcased in the Consumer Electronics Show will feature in the 2016 BMW X5. This model will be equipped with the latest technological features. One of the suggested features includes the Park Assist system which could be improved in terms of locating a parking spot. Also in the expectation list is the lane changing and overtaking assist. This new auto is expected to be presented with a space for the kid since BMW wants to bring in this concept. This means that the 2016 BMW X5 is likely to be more roomy that the previous models. High technological features such as navigation infotainment and safety features will be offered. Likewise, the seats will be made using new top of the range lather in order to enhance its stylish appearance.
2016 BMW X5: Engine Options
Bavarian car manufacture is renowned for offering a wide range of engines, and this new model will not be an exception. 2016 BMW X5 base model will come with the 3.0 liter V6 that is able to generate around 300 horses and 300 pounds-feet of torque. The second engine alternative is the xDrive50i which will be powered by 4.4 liter V8 with an output of 445 horses and 480 lb-ft of torque. A diesel engine variant is also expected and it will use the 3.0 liter V6 turbocharged unit with an output of 255 hp and 413 pounds-feet of torque. All these engines will be mated to an 8 speed automatic transmission which will in turn deliver power to either the four wheels or the rear wheels.
Most importantly, 2016 BMW X5 will come in a hybrid and an M version. In the sporty M version, there will be a 4.4 liter V8 engine generating 575 horses. It will be paired with ZF 8HP automatic transmission. For the hybrid or the eDrive version, there will be a 2.0 liter four cylinder offering 241 horses and 258 lb feet, in addition to an electric motor providing about 94 horses and 184 lb feet of torque.
2016 BMW X5: Release Date and Price
2016 BMW X5 is likely to arrive in summer of 2015. Its price is expected to be in the same range as it is currently, that is form $ 50 000 to $ 60 000. Its biggest competitors of 2016 BMW X5 will be Audi Q7, Land Rover LR4, Mercedes M-Class and Infiniti QX70.
